4 facts about Oral Sunscreen

What is oral sunblock? Oral supplement that helps us protect from sun damage? Is it safe to eat SPF? Here’s everything you need to know about oral sunblock.

What is the main ingredient of Oral sunblock?

Oral sunblock has been in the market for over 25 years and Heliocare remains a popular oral sunblock brand in the market. The core active ingredient in Heliocare oral sunblock is Fernblock®, a standard technology to extract a type of tropical fern named Polypodium leucotomos. This fern is a powerful antioxidant which can work both topically and orally. It acts on all 4 types of radiation – UVB, UVA, Visible light and Infrared. They prevent both their immediate damage like burns, and delayed damage like aging, pigmentations and skin cancers.

Is it clinically proven?

Skeptical about it? Heliocare oral sunblock is clinically proven to work! It has been researched extensively at Harvard Medical School for more than 12 years by renowned scientists. Findings are also published in leading medical journals.

One study titled “Safety and Efficacy of Oral Polypodium leucotomos Extract in Healthy Adult Subjects” reported that participants experienced a decrease in number sunburn episodes and lesser skin erythema when exposed to the sun.

Additionally, in Singapore, Heliocare’s oral sunblock has also been classified by HSA as a health supplement and is widely recommended by doctors, leaving no reason for doubt that oral sunblock is clinically-proven to work.

Do I still need to apply topical SPF if I’m taking this?

Some people may find topical sunscreen too greasy and tend to clog up the pores. Unfortunately, oral sunblock cannot replace your regular topical sunblock. For maximum protection, it is recommended to use topical sunscreen in conjunction with your oral sunblock. At least for the face, it is important to also apply topical sunscreen, but when combined with oral sunblock, you can go for lighter products (SPF15-30) to reduce the risk of clogging pores.

What about the side effects?

We always read that too much supplements can cause adverse effects on our body. But this is not the case for Heliocare oral sunblock. There are NO known side effects associated with it! Fernblock® has been used safely in the market for over 40 years in Europe without any reported side effects or weight gain. It is also non-toxic, and does not contain iodine, chemicals, cholesterol, or hormones, making it a safe & essential addition to your sun care routine.

Heliocare oral sunblock is also suitable for children age 4 and above. Although there are no known side effects, Heliocare capsules are not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
