Do you have such problems with your skin ? If so, then this post might intrigued you further !

What Is Pico Laser?

pico laser

The word laser stands for ‘Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation’. There are many kinds of laser out there with different mediums and wavelengths used for different purposes. Simply put, a laser is a single-wavelength packed with high energy and can be accurately focused to transmit that light energy onto a very small area.

Pico laser works in ultrashort picosecond laser pulses and uses photoacoustic energy (mechanical energy).  It also means that the skin heats up less due to the speed of laser and this reduces the risk of injury to skin. Due to the short pulse duration of the Pico Laser, it is also able to break down pigmentation into a much smaller fragments compared to a Q-Switched Laser.

On top of that, the powerful photoacoustic effect is able to create tiny explosions beneath the skin known as LIOB ( laser induced optical breakdown bodies).

Pico Laser Use Case

Tattoo removal

The Q-switched laser was primarily considered to be the gold standard in tattoo removal but now with the arrival of the Pico laser, tattoo removal is much faster and easier!  The treatment releases a high amount of energy within a brief timeframe using picosecond technology, breaking the tattoo ink into tiny particles and it is easier for the body to eliminate the ink particles. Also, due to the high speed, there is less heat produced and thus, safer for the skin.

Acne scars / Skin rejuvenation

Scars are notoriously difficult to reduce or remove but not to worry, because picosecond is able to treat it effectively. Due to the LIOB effect, collagen remodelling is able to take place and results in a smoother skin texture and a radiant complexion.  Of course, Pico laser will yield excellent results with Rejuran. Be sure to check out Rejuran too if you’re thinking of expediting the whole treatment process !

Pigmentation/ birthmark removal/ solar lentigenes

Pico laser is able to pulverize the melanin pigments of those pesky post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation spots( PIH) and other pigmentation problems like solar lentigenes,  reducing its appearance.

How Painful is Pico Laser?

Pain is quite subjective as there are few patients who can do pico laser without any anaesthetic cream. Those who have higher pain threshold will feel like this treatment is just like a breeze.

For a person who have lower pain threshold, pico laser would seem like getting a sun burn. It has a tingling and burning sensation which would be rated as 5/10 in a pain score table. However, the good news is that before the procedure, anaesthetic (numb) cream will be applied hence the whole process is well tolerated.

How often do I need to do Pico Laser?

Well, it depends on what is the problem. For problems like solar lentigines, freckles, one or two times may be enough. But if it’s a more persistent problem such as acne scars and tattoo removal, then you may require at least 3 times and above. Be sure to discuss this out with your doctor!

Is one session of pico laser enough?

The number of sessions depend on the skin problem. Typically, for freckles, 1-2 sessions will be sufficient to see results as freckles are quite superficial. However, for scars, tattoos and other pigmentation issues, generally, it would be recommended that the patient does it for at least 4 sessions to see an improvement.

What is the downtime of pico laser?

Different pico laser machines have different downtime and of course, it depends on the skin problem as well. Usually, the downtime is about 1-2 days. If patient’s indication is scars, then the downtime can be up to 3-5 days.

Pico Laser Side Effects

Everything sounds too good to be true but is there a 100 % flawless thing in the world? Well, to be honest, Pico Laser is very safe and efficient. However, every individual have different skin type and different tolerance level. These have to be assessed by your doctor as they are experienced to determine the power of the laser which is suitable for your skin.

How much do pico laser cost?

For localised freckles area, it can start from RM 500 onwards.

For the whole face, it starts from RM 900.

Please do note that this is just an estimation of prices as our doctors need to assess your skin condition to know which settings and mode for the best results. Different settings and mode or area can yield a difference in prices.
