Introduction

In general, we start losing collagen and elastin in our mid twenties. Our epidermis becomes thinner and signs of aging begin to show on our face and neck. Hence, it is never too early to start on skin booster.

What is skin booster?

Skin booster is commonly known as ‘水光针’ in mandarin. As the name suggests, skin booster is a product injected into the skin via microneedles to give the skin a boost– of hydration and rejuvenation. They also stimulate collagen & elastin production at cellular level thus reducing signs of aging.

What is skin booster made of?

Skin boosters are usually made of Hyaluronic Acid (HA). Some brands may have added composition with other collagen stimulating ingredients.

Hyaluronic acid is a component that may also be found naturally in the skin. It is capable of holding 1000 times its molecular weight in water.  Naturally occurring hyaluronic acid gives our skin a more radiant, healthy and supple.

I am already using high grade skincare products, do I still need skin booster?

If you are still unsatisfied with the results from your skincare products, you can consider trying skin booster. Skin booster bypasses the skin barrier, and are injected precisely into the deeper layers of the skin. By putting hyaluronic acid and other anti-aging ingredients in the dermis, you do not need to worry of its absorption or efficacy.

How does it work?

With its high affinity to water molecules, studies have shown that Hyaluronic Acid not only helps improves skin hydration from within. It also helps to

  • restore brighter and radiant complexion
  • improve skin elasticity
  • reduce fine lines & wrinkles
  • improve scars
  • reduce trans-epidermal water loss

How many types of skin boosters are there in the market?

There are multiple brands of skin boosters in the market. Our topmost favourite Hyaluronic Acid brands are:

Juvederm Volite

Juvederm Volite contains 13mg/ml of cross-linked hyaluronic acid per syringe. It has a unique cross-linkage and patented Vycross™ technology by Allergan, which lasts longer in the skin. (Allergan is the maker of Botox and Juvederm fillers). It is recommended to repeat the treatment after 6 months to maintain optimal results.

Neauvia Hydrodeluxe

Hydro Deluxe has a unique composition of 18 mg/ml of pure hyaluronic acid, enriched with 0,01% of calcium hydroxyapatite.

This unique composition activates and supports natural processes of collagen production. A series of 4 treatments with 3-week intervals between all treatments should be performed to achieve optimal results.

Profhilo

Profhilo is the new kid in the block in the Malaysian market. With one of the highest concentrations of HA on the market (64mg / 2ml) it is not only boosting and hydrating the skin but also remodels the aging and sagging tissue.

Rejuran Healer

Even though Rejuran Healer is not made of Hyaluronic Acid, it placement of Rejuran Healer is similar to skin boosters, but slightly more superficially. It is made polynucleotides derived from Salmon DNA fragments. It has amazing regenerative and repair properties for damaged skin. It also helps with refining texture, open pores, fine lines and improve acne scars.

I usually individualise the cocktail for different patients. The most popular concern are open pores, whitening and even skin tone. My favourite cocktail will be using Neuvia HydroDeluxe/Rejuran combined with PDRN/gluthathion/microbotox. These additional ingredients in the skin cocktail give an extra boost to the skin.
