Thought of undergoing a surgical procedure to lift up your saggy brows or implants for forehead but worried of the pain and risks?
Long ago, surgical procedures are deemed as the only solution to these problems but as medical technology advances, there are more non-surgical options that we can offer like HIFU, fillers and botox.
What Causes Brow and Forehead Descent?
Aging :
This is caused by the aging process that occurs naturally. As we age, the collagen and elastin in our face will start to diminish. With gravity and the diminished collagen, the skin will start to descend and become saggy, giving that ‘ wrinkled’ look. Of course, due to the bone resorption which I wrote about it here, your forehead will be less pronounced too as you age.
Dehydrated Skin:
We know how vital water is to your body; it is also crucial for the skin to be hydrated enough to strengthen and repair its barrier functions. Too much water loss and inadequate water supply to the body can cause dehydration and affects the skin to be more sensitive, dull-looking and display accelerated signs of ageing like fine lines.
Weight Loss :
It is known that individuals who are heavier have more fats distributed and a result of that, the skin is stretched. A sudden weight loss will contribute to the fat layer being burned off and all that is left will be just saggy skin.
Free radicals :
Free radicals reactive oxygen species are generated by our body by various endogenous systems or exposure to different physiochemical conditions. A balance between free radicals and antioxidants is necessary for proper physiological function. If free radicals overwhelm the body’s ability to regulate them, a condition known as oxidative stress ensues. Thus, free radicals cause oxidative damage to the key proteins like elastin and collagen hence speeding up the aging process of the skin and forming wrinkles. Examples that contribute to free radicals are like smoking, UV light, certain type of foods.
lllness
Of course, certain illness like stroke of Bell’s palsy can also contribute to a sagging face. If you have this condition, get off the blog post and head to the nearest clinic straight away !
So what can we do about it?
- Fillers
One can opt to do fillers for forehead to have that nice contour and definition. Hyaluronic acid fillers or non HA fillers like Ellanse, Radiesse can be used for the forehead and temples to fill up more volume.
Nervous after seeing this picture? Well, don’t worry. This is how we doctors usually place fillers.
The ‘ needle’ is actually a blunt tip cannula which we will insert in. This is a painless method as the tip of the cannula is smooth and not sharp. Besides that, the fillers also have analgesics inside which makes the entire treatment comfortable.
The whole procedure is relatively quite fast, around 30 mins or so.
The result is amazing right? You can expect a fuller forehead with glowy skin after that ! Say hello to prosperity and good luck !
* how many mls of fillers depends on your expectation and your physician’s judgement.
- HIFU
If you experience sagginess, then HIFU will be able to lift the skin slightly. But HIFU is unable to replenish the volume. If you’re aged around 40s-50s with sagging skin, then HIFU will be suitable to tighten up the skin.
- Botox
Botox needs no introduction as the wrinkle eraser. It can definitely lift up your forehead and erase those wrinkles you dislike. Having deep creases and not knowing what to do? Easy peasy. Just a few drops of this miracle wrinkle eraser and you’re good to go!
Now you know what to do!
